Brands:

This 1968 Porsche 912 is a partially-disassembled project that was acquired by the current owner in 2014 from a vintage Porsche shop in Saugerties, New York. Front fenders from a short-wheelbase 911 have since been installed, and a 1,600cc flat-four and a five-speed manual transaxle sourced separately from an earlier 912 accompany the vehicle. Most of the removed trim and interior components are included in the sale, along with spare seats, mechanical components, and more. This 912 is offered on dealership consignment with an owner’s manual and a clean Pennsylvania title.

1968 Porsche 912 Project

Originally finished in silver, the car has been stripped, metalwork completed, and coated in primer in preparation for paint and reassembly. 1968 was the final year for the short-wheelbase 912, and the current owner added fenders from a short-wheelbase 911 with side-mounted marker lights, for which the factory mounting holes are present in the quarter panels. A set of 15″ Fuchs wheels are mounted with older Pirelli tires for transport. Some of the removed rubber trim is included, though it has reportedly deteriorated and is not usable.

Removed trim and other spare parts are included, and the seller notes that some of the spares are from the current owner’s previous 356 project. Layout photos showing the lighting, exterior trim, window frames, and more are provided in the gallery. The seller notes that the removed glass is also included, though it is not pictured.

The interior has been partially stripped with the exception of the dash, steering wheel, shifter, rear cabin insulation, and handbrake. The five-gauge instrument panel includes a 6k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a quartet of auxiliary gauges in combination housings. Around 21k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, although true mileage is unknown.

1968 Porsche 912 Project

A pair of mismatched front seats are included, as are multiple sets of rear seat pads and backrests. Photos of the interior trim, door panels, rear seat panels, and other accessories are provided in the image gallery.

1968 Porsche 912 Project

The 1,600cc flat-four is said to turn over freely by hand and was reportedly procured by the seller from a 356 Registry member. This car’s original engine reportedly now resides in the prior owner’s 356. Engine number *831929* is shown in the gallery and corresponds to a Porsche 912 with a build date from 1965. A five speed manual transmission carrying case stamping 901.301.101.02 is included.

Additional photos showing the underside of the car, engine bay, and front trunk are provided in the gallery.

Chassis stamping 12802030 is shown in the gallery and corresponds to the removed chassis tag pictured above.
