This 1966 Porsche 912 coupe is a non-running project that was purchased new by the seller’s father from Dave Rasmussen Volkswagen in San Mateo, California and reportedly parked in 1972 after it suffered an engine failure. A replacement 1.6L flat-four was installed in the 1990s, and the car was inherited by the seller in 2000 and relocated to Wisconsin. It is finished in Polo Red over black vinyl upholstery and equipped with a five-speed manual transaxle, pop-out rear quarter windows, four-wheel disc brakes, and 15″ vented steel wheels. This 912 project is now offered at no reserve with a tool kit, spare parts, and a bonded Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.
The Karmann-built body came finished from the factory in Polo Red (6602) and now shows fading and corrosion throughout. Dents and scratches are visible around the body, the rubber seals are deteriorated, and corrosion is present in the front trunk.
The 15″ vented steel wheels wear polished hubcaps with Porsche crests and older Michelin ZX tires. The car features an independent suspension with torsion bars as well as four-wheel disc brakes.
The partially disassembled cabin houses front bucket seats and fold-down rear seats trimmed in black vinyl. The upholstery is torn, the dashboard and headliner are damaged, and sections of the carpeting are missing.
The four-spoke steering wheel wears a “hockey puck” horn button and frames a three-gauge VDO cluster featuring a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 39k miles.
The replacement 1.6L flat-four was sourced from a 1968 912 and features twin Solex carburetors. The engine is said to have been installed in the 1990s, though it is unknown when the car was last in running condition.
The car is equipped with a five-speed manual transaxle. Rust-through is evident on the floors.
