1964 Volkswagen Beetle Project

Original price was: $7,000.00.Current price is: $6,000.00.

Brands:

This 1964 Volkswagen Beetle is a project car that has not been on the road since 2021, though the engine was started with an external fuel source before the auction. The fuel system will need to be serviced and the tires and brake lines require replacement before it can be driven. The car was produced in August 1963 and was sold new through Demas Volkswagen in Scottsdale, Arizona, where it was acquired in July 1973 by the seller’s spouse, who notes they have added approximately 65k miles during their ownership, rolling the odometer in the process. Additional details include an air-cooled 1.2L flat-four, a four-speed manual transaxle, 15″ steel wheels, drum brakes, headlight visors, fender stone guards, gray upholstery, front lap belts, a Bendix Sapphire I radio, and a roller accelerator pedal.

The sedan body wears a weathered blue finish and received paintwork and a replacement decklid and rear bumper at an unknown time. Exterior details include polished beltline trim, headlight visors, fender stone guards, dual “pea shooter” exhaust outlets, and running boards. Images detailing the condition of the paint and body.

The 15″ steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with 165/80 Geostar SB-802 tires with cracked sidewalls. Its notes the lines for the drum brake system need replacement.

The front bucket seats and rear bench have been retrimmed in gray vinyl with white piping and are joined by color-coordinated door panels. Interior elements include black square-weave carpeting, rubber floor mats, front lap belts, a Bendix Sapphire I radio, a roller accelerator pedal, and a foot-operated high/low beam switch. Wood has been placed in the battery tray beneath the rear seat, and rust holes are visible at the bottom of each door. The removed sunvisors are included in the sale.

The two-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and features a polished horn bar with a Wolfsburg crest center cap. Instrumentation includes a 90-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer has rolled over and currently shows 55k miles, and its notes they have added approximately 65k miles during their ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The replacement 1.2L air-cooled flat-four was reportedly rebuilt prior to installation and has been converted to utilize a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. The engine is equipped with a centrifugal advance distributor, a Bosch blue ignition coil, and a single downdraft carburetor topped with an open-element air cleaner. The seller battery is dead, and the fuel tank and lines require cleaning.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Plywood has been secured to the bottom side of the left front floor pan.
