1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible 427 4-Speed Project

$14,500.00

Brands:

This 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was acquired by its previous owner in 1979 and is said to have remained in West Virginia before being brought to California, where it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. Power is provided by a 427ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission, and additional equipment includes 15″ steel wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, pop up headlamps, twin front grilles, chrome bumpers, and a Delco push-button radio. Work performed in preparation for the sale included overboring and rebuilding the engine. This Corvette C3 is described as a running project and is now offered in California with a clean West Virginia title.

The fiberglass body left the factory finished in Polar White (972) and has since been repainted. Exterior details include pop up headlamps, twin front grilles, fender vents, and split chrome rear bumpers. No soft top is present, and the removable black hardtop is missing its rear window. Photos of corrosion, scratches, and various holes in the body can be viewed in the gallery below.

Steel 15″ wheels show corrosion and are mounted with older 185/65 Kumho Solus KH25 tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by four-wheel discs.

The cabin retains two bucket seats upholstered in red vinyl with button-tufted inserts that show wear and discoloration. The door panels have been removed but are included in the sale. Equipment includes a heater, a dash-mounted ignition switch, a reverse lock-out shifter, a dash-mounted clock, and a Delco push-button AM/FM radio. Various interior trim components are damaged, and corrosion is visible in the rear storage compartment.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,600-rpm redline, while gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and amperage are housed within the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 96k miles.

The 427ci V8 was rebuilt and overbored .040″ by Rod’s Auto Tech and Marine in Los Angeles, California, in January 2023. Additional work consisted of rebuilding two cylinder heads and replacing the camshaft, piston rings, hydraulic lifters, and oil pump. The engine features Edelbrock valve covers and a Champion radiator.
