This 1968 Porsche 912 was originally delivered in Europe and is fitted with a 2.0L flat-six from an early 911 and a Type 901 5-speed manual transaxle. The drivetrain swap was started under previous ownership, and includes 911 engine mounts and a factory 911 oil tank. Other equipment includes a set of Scheel seats, a Racemark steering wheel, steel rear fender flares, and European-market lighting and metric instrumentation. This 912 project is offered by the selling dealer in New York at no reserve with a clean Virginia title.
The car was originally silver and has been repainted in white, with the front hood and fenders in primer. The hood was previously drilled for pins, though the holes have since been filled. Steel flares have been added at the rear, and the rear bumper was modified to meet the new body contour. The passenger-side rocker panel has been replaced, though the repair has not been finished.
The seller notes that the outline of the rear European license plate is still visible in the dust at the rear of the car. The period Minilite-style wheels show no visible markings, but are mounted with Minilite lug nuts. The car retains factory European-market lighting, including the three-color taillights and Sekurit and Sigla glass.
The factory interior is black with grey carpets, and a set of vintage Scheel seats are included. The seller notes that 1968 door panels are still fitted, and carpets are intact on the door sills, parcel shelf, and around the rear seats. The radio hole has been enlarged, and a Racemark steering wheel is fitted.
Factory instrumentation is intact, and 145k kilometers (~90k miles) are shown. The footwell carpets are absent, and the floors are pictured with the seats removed.
The prior owner fitted a 2.0-liter 911 engine with correct 911 engine mounts and a factory 911 oil tank. The seller notes that the engine has not been fully installed, lacks ignition components and fuel lines, and appears to be missing a clutch. Photos are provided of the valve covers and through the ports, and show newer installation hardware and valve guides. A set of Weber 40 IDA3C carburetors are fitted.
Rust is present around the battery box where a leaking battery corroded both the battery box floor and the left front suspension mount. The area has been reinforced for transport, and photos are provided of the area. Newer hardware and a replacement seal are pictured at the steering linkage in the smuggler’s box.
The seller notes perforation in the driver’s door sill, at the base of the rear decklid, and in other areas around the car. Photos are provided of the torsion bar mounts, floor pans, door sills, and other common rust-prone areas. A custom-made sport exhaust is included but has not been installed, and is pictured in the gallery below.
